Letter from the President: Thinking Outside the Box
When Cases By Source celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1995, we decided to embrace the environmental awakening of the decade by adding reusable case manufacturing and customization to a business plan that was, until then, solely based on packaging.

We started our reusable line with cases made from materials that were already recycled or would be recyclable: plastic, metal, and wood, to name a few. Yes, cases were more expensive than our original packaging concepts, but for customers, the notion of reuse—environmentally and in terms of “more bang for the buck”—outweighed such concerns.

At the time, our goal was to become the “Home Depot” for cases. But our epiphany came when we realized we could integrate our well-honed packaging skills to develop and customize cases with foam interiors and molded custom inserts shaped directly to the sizes and shapes of customers’ merchandise.

Back then, and even more so today, our designs ensure safe transit and offer important aesthetic options. Colors, printing, labels, and choice of materials add irrefutable value to our already established and reputable manufacturing capabilities.

Cases, once merely 10% of our business, now represent 80% of our output. While the word ‘Source’ was once a direct connection to the packaging side of the business, the etymology of “Cases By Source” was more a nod to the notion that we could be our customers’ single source for their case needs, from concept to completion, and everything in between.

By shifting our strategy to be synergistic with the times, we not only enjoyed a significant financial boost, but also, our once regional business now enjoys a domestic and international customer base. And by thinking ecologically, we are helping other companies reduce their environmental footprint.

When we reached our 20th anniversary in 2005 there was great cause for celebration. And now, moving into 2008, we are proud to say that the celebration continues.

Thank you for being part of our history, our present, and our future.

Case Study: First-Class Flight Cases
For some industries, compromise is acceptable. Not for us. And, certainly, not for a leading aerospace company with a presence in more than 70 countries across five continents. With a workforce spread across two continents, shipping becomes a much more dangerous proposition…especially when you’re shipping airplane brakes.

Client problem: Stray, makeshift, and leftover boxes found around the office were no longer an option for this client's delicate but heavy equipment, nor was the spray-in foam they used as dunnage. Weighing in at 70 pounds, the brakes needed to not only be secure and protected, but also easier to remove from the package. Additionally, the Company wanted to move toward a reusable package that would establish brand identity and portray the upscale reputation they earned.

Our Recommendation: For consistency across the board, we suggested a durable case with custom-designed, built-in foam and cutouts that would allow for easy access to the brakes.

Our ATA SpectraCases make great Road Cases for businesses or organizations that need to protect their products during shipment. Our Anvil-style Shipping Cases offer the widest range of custom choices for quantities as low as one piece. They are used to carry all types of sensitive equipment, including electronics, medical equipment, military equipment, test and calibration instrumentation, light fixtures, telecommunications equipment, and more.

Cases By Source’s Solution: To meet the customer’s requirements for protection with an upscale look, we designed a custom-fabricated ATA Case with plywood laminated to ABS. The case features spring-loaded recessed handles, a fully removable lid for easier lifting and full access to the brakes, reinforced corners for protection from wear and tear, a stackable design for convenient storage and transport, and a silk-screened logo and custom color ABS panels for brand identification and reinforcement. The interior was engineered with durable polyethylene foam ergonomically designed with four cutouts that allow for two-person access to the weighty and sensitive materials. At the client’s request, we also added an instructional label on the lid’s interior and affixed it to the foam with an aggressive adhesive to withstand handling.

Client Satisfaction: The case has proven effective on all fronts. The client has enjoyed the reusable aspect of the packaging as well as the comfort of knowing their delicate equipment is safe and secure. The branding and color of the case have provided an unmistakable presence for the company and their familiar logo. The removable lid has removed the strain of handling the heavy contents and the cutouts in the foam have provided the effortless access the company wished for.

An all-around “first-class” success.

Tool Control
When doctors scrub in for surgery, they expect a prepared environment. Operating room sterile. Patient ready. Tools methodically arranged. When a salesperson goes out on a call, they need to have their presentation not only in tact, but fully inventoried, clearly labeled, and completely functional. At Cases By Source we design cases for every industry—cases that serve not only as marketing vehicles or protective packaging, but cases that also serve as mobile checklists for
tool control; cases that offer presentation opportunities for sales success; cases that function as stylized, skillfully engineered housing for valuable merchandise; and cases that serve as portable catalogs for flawless and efficient product retrieval.

Recently, we devised a tool-control solution for one of our Silicon Valley customers who consistently work in ‘clean’ rooms. Our customized project not only eliminated the risk
of time, manpower, and expenses lost by disorganization, but also directly contributed to the client’s lean manufacturing initiative: The customer now uses our custom-made ATA SpectraCases with trays organized into one week, one month, six month, and one year installments to organize and control the tools they need to service machines that produce microchips. They simply swap out the interchangeable trays quickly and efficiently prior to each service call, allowing for on-the-spot inventory and a proactive approach to the task at hand.

Let us help you get organized. Our design engineers offer free consultations and can guide you from concept to completion. We offer stock and custom solutions for every requirement.

Look to Cases By Source for these organizational opportunities:

Blow-molded interiors
