Letter from the President: Fun + Games at Cases By Source
 Turn on the television. Chances are, you’ll see at least one case a day: There was the molded aluminum briefcase on “Lost;” our smooth aluminum case featured earlier this month on “The Bachelor” (if you look carefully you can even see the Cases By Source logo); The Pelican cases evidenced in a riveting New York harbor crime scene of a recent “CSI: NY” episode; and the Zarges cases that made it to the big screen in “Ocean’s Thirteen” and “The Kingdom.” (In fact, the Zarges cases are so hot they competed for face time with world-class supermodels in a recent Victoria’s Secret catalog shoot due out later this month.)
And, of course, there’s always the mother lode on “Deal or No Deal.”
 It’s easy to take cases for granted. But it’s not so easy to avoid them. They are everywhere we look, providing safety and security for our most valuable wares. They go beyond functionality, though— they’re also sexy, sophisticated, and sleek, or rugged, reliable, and brawny. The cases we carry say something about us. Think about it: Would James Bond ever carry his dossier and weapon of choice in a paper bag?

Cases That Measure Up
 Our homepage features several unique tools that will help you quickly find cases that meet your needs. Our personal favorite is the “Search By Size” feature: Simply plug in the length, width, and height of your desired case to view your options. You can even use constraints such as “less than” or “equal to,” “exact size,” or “+ / -“ with each dimension. Click the “search” button and, like magic, a listing will appear for all of the cases that meet your criteria.
 If you are a visual person and know the style of case you want, but don’t want to spend time navigating links and using the infamous ”back” button, click twice on the stack of cases in the center of the page. The rolling filmstrip showcases a wide range of case styles for your viewing pleasure — just move the mouse to the left or right to control the direction of the filmstrip.

Industry-specific manufacturers often depend on trade shows to showcase their wares. Dynamic presentations and educated sales representatives are vital to their success. Here’s how we helped one dental company develop an updated and sophisticated presentation sure to take a bite out of the competition
 Client problem: The innovative tools and accessories our client brought to the exhibition deserved more than a sheath of black velvet draped over a flat surface. The display didn’t make the impact they were aiming for, nor did it highlight the time-honored company’s achievements. To an untrained eye, the table was covered in nasty bits of equipment you’d never want near your mouth. To the professional conferees, however, it was a veritable cornucopia of dental and endodontic hand pieces, high-precision attachments…and a peek into the future of dentistry.
 Recommendation: Considering the client’s aesthetic and functional needs, we recommended a modular system of custom wood cases outfitted with foam inserts to highlight their products’ style and diversity.
Cases By Source’s wood cases have a sophisticated and polished look that provide an excellent solution for a wide range of products. The cases not only make an elegant, reusable presentation, but also offer organization and protection. Custom interiors are fabricated from wood, plastic, fabric or foam. Logos can be silk screened or laser burned, and interiors can be customized from routed wood or die-cut foam, or lined with satin or velvet.
 Cases By Source’s Solution: The client sent us tools for measurement and a set of marked photographs and layout instructions to ensure the most professionally sensible arrangement in the case’s interior. The tools were separated into three categories—slow, high speed, and accessories— each of which needed its own case.
We modeled the solutions in our 3-D CAD design software, and then manufactured a series of maple wood cases with a cherry stain and lacquered finish. The top edge of the case was routed for a lift-off lid that fits into the recess, and the interior was customized with a die-cut cross-linked foam insert. Each cavity was layered to a carefully measured height so all components would rest on the same level, and we also added holes in the bottom for dowels, enabling the client to tilt the displays for better viewing angles and a more dynamic presentation.
Client Satisfaction: The customer has since done a major overhaul of their entire exhibit and recently introduced the cases at a conference in San Diego. “Cases By Source hit the nail on the head! The quality was superb. Everyone stopped—dealers and customers. We received a remarkable amount of compliments and even a request for more information about the display. We now have the conformity and the look we have always wanted, and we are looking forward to our next project with Cases By Source.”

Designing promotional packages allows us to inspire and also promote offerings and showcase technical abilities that aren’t always represented in our catalog. 
The checkerboard pattern in the lid was achieved by laminating white foam to charcoal foam. The plugs were removed and re-inserted upside down to create the two-toned pattern. The base was die-cut polyethylene foam to accommodate the game pieces which were die-cut from cross-linked foam. The exterior of the case boasted a single-color white screen print, allowing for immediate brand recall.
The Create Awards are produced by the publishers of Create Magazine. The intense competition included 40 categories and 300 subcategories in eight major creative fields. This year's contest entries spanned the globe, and were judged by more than 20 leading professionals from a wide range of industries. Only 235 honors were awarded out of the roughly 2,400 entries.
