Letter from the President: An Ounce of Prevention
...

Pop Quiz :
Yes
No
Do you wear sunscreen to avoid skin damage?
Would you bring a coat to Alaska in the winter?
If given a choice, would you buy a car with airbags?
If a doctor recommended a way to reduce your risk of getting cancer, would you follow her instructions?

If you answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, you are not alone. We are immersed in a society obsessed with preventive care. Think about it. We use creams and elixirs to prevent aging, take vitamins, eat right, and exercise to promote a healthy lifestyle and prevent sickness, and wear seatbelts in cars and helmets on bicycles to prevent serious injury during a crash or fall.

So when you have equipment or merchandise on which your business’s well-being thrives, wouldn’t you observe similar precautionary measures? Or would you rather risk the financial ramifications of having your products damaged because they aren’t packaged properly?

The case industry may not seem like an obvious place for preventive care, but that’s essentially what we do. We offer protection, security, and peace of mind in knowing you have given your merchandise and instrumentation the best possible defense against daily wear and tear, shipping and handling disasters, environmental stresses, and other factors that pose threats to your important wares on a daily basis.

Take, for example, this month’s case study. The client, a spinal company, came to us because they could no longer rely on the cartons they used to ship their delicate equipment. Sure enough, on the way to our offices, the boxes collapsed and the materials arrived not only damaged, but broken beyond repair. Imagine if they weren’t sending the materials to us, but to a trade show or—gasp—a physician for use on a patient!

No matter how you apply the reasoning, be it sports, war, love, or business, it’s no secret that the best defense is a good offense.

That’s why we do what we do.

Case Study: We’ve Got Your Back
If you had to transport one of your most precious possessions across the country on a regular basis, would you trust it to a cardboard box, peanuts, or bubble wrap? One company’s work begged the question: Would you subject your most delicate body parts to such treatment?

Client Problem
:
A California-based spinal company dedicated to the advancement of motion preservation and minimally-invasive solutions for spinal disorders relied on flimsy corrugated packaging and commercially-produced dunnage to protect their anatomically-driven instrumentation. They came to Cases By Source to explore more effective alternatives and, in the course of sending their equipment for measurement, experienced first-hand proof of their need for cases: The tools were damaged in transit.

Our Recommendation: To protect the client’s sensitive equipment, we suggested a durable but portable case that would guarantee protection and still offer the aesthetics of a sales demo kit.

The Pelican 1510 Carry-On Case pairs durable, lightweight construction with a travel-friendly design that meets FAA carry-on size regulations—a perfect solution for this client’s needs. The case is watertight, crushproof, and dustproof. It has a retractable extension handle; strong polyurethane wheels with stainless steel bearings; easy-open, double-throw latches; an O-ring seal; automatic pressure equalization valve; ergonomic rubber over-molded top and side handles; stainless steel hardware and padlock protectors; Pick ‘N’ Pluck or custom foam interiors; and, of course, Pelican’s Unconditional Lifetime Guarantee of Excellence.

Cases By Source’s Solution: Using our sophisticated structural design tools to measure each client’s equipment and provide the best layout, we create 3D computer models of the equipment and proposed interior. The technique provides a quick snapshot of the final case before it becomes a reality. For this client, we fabricated a closed-cell, routed-foam custom insert to secure the items and display them in an efficient order. For brand recognition and informational purposes, we added a scratchproof, personalized label to the exterior and a literature pouch was secured in the lid.

Client Satisfaction: We have developed a solid, successful partnership built on trust and the high-level customer service on which our business is built. This longtime client has placed numerous orders over the years and has enjoyed the wide range of applications offered by our cases. For some of their projects, we have designed alternate inserts, providing not only an economical solution, but also an environmentally-friendly option for reuse.
